Praxis Development was founded as Warr Industries in 1929 by C.B. Warr. Mr. Warr ran the company until his death in 1959, at which time his son, Gene, assumed the leadership of the company. Gene Warr ran the company until his retirement in 2001, whereupon his son, Kory, was named CEO by the company's board of directors.

Since its genesis, Praxis Development has involved itself in many areas of commerce, including petroleum, insurance, and finance. However, the company's primary focus has been and remains the development and management of commercial and residential properties.
